In the eyes of John McCarthy, there seems to be little justification for Ronda Rousey to contemplate a return to the UFC, given her substantial accomplishments outside of fighting. Despite her absence from the Octagon for over six years, Rousey’s impact as a tremendous star during her tenure with the UFC remains etched in the memories of long-time fans.

The legacy she forged within the sport is undeniable, yet McCarthy believes her subsequent ventures and achievements make a strong case for her to continue focusing on her successful ventures beyond fighting.

Is Ronda Rousey unlikely to make a strong comeback?

In a well-known declaration back in 2011, Dana White, the president of the UFC, emphatically stated that women would never compete in the promotion. However, Ronda Rousey’s remarkable success in Strikeforce changed the landscape, ultimately leading to the historic booking of her and Liz Carmouche for the first-ever women’s fight in UFC history at UFC 157.

During an episode of their show, “Weighing In,” former UFC fighter Josh Thomson and Jon McCarthy, a renowned UFC play-by-play commentator, swiftly dismissed the notion of Ronda Rousey contemplating a return to MMA. While UFC commentator Jon Anik had raised the possibility, Thomson and McCarthy were skeptical about the likelihood of such a comeback.

“Look, I love Ronda,” McCarthy said. “I’ve known Ronda for a long time. I think she’s – a lot of people don’t understand Ronda and her mindset, who she is. If she wants to come back, I’d be surprised that she wants to come back. She’s got a whole life, and she’s made a ton of money. And she can do whatever she wants. She’s got a husband sitting there, she now has a baby sitting there. And she’s got her Browsey Acres that she is very functional in and loves to be part of and wants to be there. And when you’re talking about fighting, now it’s about time. Time away from all of that.”

Ronda Rousey shouldn’t look for a money fight

Having achieved considerable success in the world of WWE, Ronda Rousey’s transition away from MMA led many fight fans to believe that she had moved on from the sport entirely. According to McCarthy, the potential for a lucrative payday from the UFC should not be enough to entice the former champion to disrupt her current lifestyle.

“Could she make money trying to go back to the UFC? Yeah, Dana would pay her a s***load. S***load. But it probably wouldn’t be the smart thing for her to do. She’s got a great life. Great career in the UFC, great career in the WWE. Walk away and be a farmer.”
