Robbie Lawler and Bryan Barberena’s welterweight contest has been moved from the preliminary to the main card of Saturday night’s UFC 276 event in Las Vegas. This fight was supposed to be between Miesha Tate and Lauren Murphy, but it was pulled off the card yesterday after Murphy tested positive for Covid. The fight will now take place on July 16 on Long Island. Lawler enters the fight fresh off a TKO victory over Nick Diaz at UFC 266. Just a few days prior, Lawler had voiced his astonishment at being placed on the undercard.

The former welterweight champion, who had lost to Rafael dos Anjos, Ben Askren, Colby Covington, and Neil Magny during three years, finally ended his four-fight losing run with that victory. He is now facing Barberena, who has just won two straight fights after defeating Darian Weeks by unanimous decision and Matt Brown by split decision in March. The UFC 276 main card is now complete and will feature the middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Jared Cannonier as the main event, with a trilogy featherweight title fight between Alex Volkanovski and Max Holloway serving as the co-main event. Robbie Lawler vs. Barberena has now been promoted.

Lawler, a former welterweight champion of the UFC, will make his 46th career outing. At UFC 266 this past September, “Ruthless” defeated Nick Diaz by third-round TKO to end a four-fight losing streak. At UFC 37, the 40-year-old made his debut in the octagon over two decades ago. In his most recent match at UFC Columbus in March, Barberena defeated Matt Brown in a bloody brawl to earn his second consecutive victory. However, it looks that “Bam Bam” has formally re-signed a new agreement with the organization for another thrilling matchup between UFC veterans. “Bam Bam” entered the cage for the penultimate bout of his contract.
