Conor McGregor has confessed that his venomous statement at Dustin Poirier was inspired by his concern that his career was coming to an end. The Irishman had been bitter in the build-up to their third bout, which took place at UFC 264 in Las Vegas, and was in the second round when he shattered his leg when jumping back from a kick. And, while laying in his hospital bed, he said that his outraged reaction after the battle was driven by a dread of losing fighting forever.

McGregor said that the pair’s rivalry was “not over” and vowed to assault Poirier after the fight, as well as making ugly remarks about his wife Jolie. However, in a new video from his upcoming Netflix documentary ‘McGregor Forever,’ he stated that he was in a bad place when he took aim at his adversary.

“I thought it was over as well,” When the documentary team speculated that the injury may be career-ending, McGregor told them. “That’s why I flipped into a different mind, a different mode. Now, it was the adrenaline as well and I know I would have calmed down.

“And part of me was thinking ‘ah Jesus imagine it was just taken from me like that’, I would go into a different place and become a different person and it was a bit scary to be honest. But, it’s McGregor forever, that’s it isn’t it? It’s McGregor forever and don’t you forget it.”

Conor McGregor will fight Michael Chandler next

The Irishman is currently on the mend and should announce the date of his rematch with Michael Chandler soon. The duo has already recorded the next season of The Ultimate Fighter, which features McGregor’s long-time friend Lee Hammond, in Las Vegas, which will debut on ESPN in America next month.

Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler will most likely be one of the most important UFC fights of the year. Last year, the UFC announced the comeback of former two-weight champion McGregor. Following that, both fighters completed filming for the forthcoming season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ as coaches. It is expected to be released at the end of May. Since then, fight fans have been anxiously anticipating any developments in the match.

McGregor recently witnessed the rematch between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis in Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena. Following that, the former UFC champion was seen having fun at a casino.
McGregor was interviewed by Inside Fighting while playing roulette. When questioned about his comeback to the UFC, McGregor said, “Sometime around the end of summer.”
