GSP expresses his gratitude

Expressing his gratitude and humility, Georges St-Pierre conveyed his deep appreciation for the induction into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and the recognition with the Order of Sport. He highlighted the transformative impact martial arts had on his life, underscoring the privilege he had in representing Canada on a global scale. St-Pierre extended heartfelt thanks to the UFC and his dedicated fan base, acknowledging their pivotal role in making this achievement possible.

“I’m honored to be inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and receive the Order of Sport,” Georges St-Pierre stated in a UFC press release. “Martial arts changed my life, and I was fortunate to be able to represent Canada on the biggest stage in the world. I want to thank UFC and all my fans, as none of this would have been possible without them.”

GSP set return in the arena

St-Pierre’s induction into the Hall of Fame precedes his return to the jiu-jitsu arena by a mere two months. On December 14, he will engage in a significant bout at the UFC Fight Pass Invitational, with his opponent yet to be revealed. This marks his first major competition since emerging from retirement in 2017 to secure the UFC middleweight title by defeating Michael Bisping. However, he had to relinquish the championship due to health complications related to ulcerative colitis.

Charles Oliveira, the former UFC lightweight champion, has expressed his desire to face St-Pierre upon his return to competitive grappling. St-Pierre has shown interest in potential matchups with Nick Diaz, Kamaru Usman, and Colby Covington, deeming them as intriguing options, especially after discussions about a showdown with Khabib Nurmagomedov fell through.

In 2020, St-Pierre earned his place in the UFC Hall of Fame’s Modern Era wing, a testament to his numerous accomplishments within the octagon. Among his remarkable feats was the record-setting achievement of nine consecutive welterweight title defenses.
