Following Perry’s TKO victory over Luke Rockhold at BKFC 41 in April this year, he completed his contract with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. This sparked immediate curiosity among fans about whether he would return to the UFC or opt to remain with BKFC.

In the end, Mike Perry inked a multi-fight contract, solidifying his commitment to BKFC, with no contemplation of a return to the UFC, and he cites several compelling reasons for his decision.

Mike Perry on his UFC return

Mike Perry explained that he never considered returning to the UFC due to the significant reduction in pay it would entail. He emphasized his preference for boxing and his extensive training history in various aspects of MMA. Perry expressed his frustration with MMA’s focus on takedowns, which diverged from his desire for striking battles.

“No, because the pay cut would have been too massive. So, it’s like, whatever and it’s five-minute rounds, and it’s MMA. I like boxing. I mean all I ever did, I know I trained lots of stuff I would get kind of good at grappling, wrestling, or whatever in certain positions, I’m fighting a fight where they are like get a takedown,” Mike Perry said on The MMA Hour.

“You know I’m thinking about hitting him right? I understand it’s not an excuse and I should ultimately fight how I want to fight,” Perry continued. “I’m the fighter, I’m the athlete, I’m the one getting in there. So, that’s how I train now I get in the ring and I fight my way now and I practice for it that way. Bare knuckle was a no-brainer.”

DFKC is the right place for Mike Perry

Besides the financial aspect, the prospect of not having to concern himself with wrestling and grappling held great appeal for Mike Perry, aligning with his desire to engage primarily in striking battles. BKFC offers him the platform to do just that, which played a significant role in his choice to renew his contract with the promotion.

In addition to competing in BKFC, the organization also grants Mike Perry the flexibility to participate in boxing matches at his discretion. Furthermore, Perry serves as the standby fighter for Dillon Danis, ready to step in if Danis is unable to make his scheduled bout against Logan Paul. Regarding his upcoming BKFC fight, Perry is currently awaiting confirmation of his next opponent.
