The reigning UFC welterweight champion, Leon Edwards, is potentially in the mix for a spot on the UFC 295 card, slated for Madison Square Garden’s grand return. Confirming this, UFC President Dana White assured that Edwards is set to grace the octagon “before the year’s close” and there’s a chance that this might culminate in a notable showdown at the iconic MSG venue.

Dana White has officially announced the inclusion of the Colby Covington vs. Leon Edwards clash on the UFC 295 card, sharing the spotlight with the Jones vs. Miocic co-main event. However, Edwards has recently altered the trajectory of this arrangement, opting for a comeback slated for November 11th instead. This shift has prompted a change in plans, with the previously scheduled Edwards vs. Covington bout at UFC London, originally intended to be hosted at The O2 arena in London, now undergoing adjustments.

Edwards vs Covington has fans excited

Following his defeat to Kamaru Usman, a fighter he had previously defeated to claim the championship, at UFC 286 in March, “Rocky” has been absent from the octagon.

Subsequent to the contest, Dana White unveiled that Colby Covington, who had served as the backup fighter during the weigh-ins for UFC 286, is now set to step up for the welterweight title challenge against Edwards on November 11th in New York.

In the beginning, Edwards dismissed Covington as a potential contender, asserting that the two-time acclaimed welterweight champion didn’t merit a chance at the title. Yet, Edwards’ spokesperson subsequently conveyed that the British standout wouldn’t stubbornly persist in pursuing a confrontation with another adversary, like the ascending talent Belal Muhammad.

No more Edwards vs Machachev

Edwards had been contemplating participation in UFC 294, slated for Abu Dhabi, when a noteworthy development occurred: the reigning lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, extended a challenge to the welterweight titleholder for a potential showdown on that very platform.

White has revealed that the organization’s event calendar is filled up until the conclusion of that month. This situation has led to available spaces on the pay-per-view card for November, a month currently marked by a heavyweight title clash between reigning champion Jon Jones and former titleholder Stipe Miocic as the main event.
