Khabib Nurmagomedov, the former undisputed lightweight champion of the UFC, called the violent incident between his cousin Abubakar Nurmagomedov and unbeaten welterweight contender Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 280 last weekend “crap” and that he and his team were “weary” of dealing with it.

Islam Makahchev, the newly crowned undisputed UFC lightweight champion, was being guided by Khabib at the Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates event as his colleague won the title via arm-triangle submission over Charles Oliveira in the second round at the Etihad Arena.

Khabib’s cousin Abubakar, however, got into a physical brawl with the aforementioned Chimaev during the celebrations that followed the fight, during which the latter struck Nurmagomedov repeatedly with a clenched hand.

In the hours after the pay-per-view event, Khabib, Makhachev, Chimaev, and others gathered at a celebration meal in honor of the team’s title triumph. The latter posed for a photo with Abubakar, with Chechen warlord and recognized leader Ramzan Kadyrov mediating the conflict between the two in an effort to put an end to it.

Khabib Nurmagomedov denounces the altercation that occurred at UFC 280 over the weekend

Khabib Nurmagomedov expressed his opinion on the confrontation between Chimaev and his cousin Abubakar, a former lightweight champion, and that he was “weary” of dealing with “crap” that comes up.

“What happened yesterday does not show us well,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said. “Neither me, nor Khamzat, nor Abubakar. To tell the truth, we are tired of this nonsense! Here we are gathered together as brothers. We talked to each other, and we apologized to each other, hugged. And Inshallah, I hope that in the future that we will only gather and fight for good reasons.”

“Today Islam won the belt, he’s the first,” Khabib continued. “The next one is very close, and it’s gonna be Khamzat. And Khamzat let us all get together. So when Khamzat wins the belt, it’s not for showing off, not for this conversation, that we are going to celebrate. We will celebrate for our new champion, Inshallah.”

“I hope that our sad moment right here, that it will never happen to anyone else again,” Khabib explained. “So that people don’t talk badly about us, we will always be together as brothers, Inshallah.”
