Take a look at 5 potential opponents Conor McGregor could fight when he returns to the UFC following his leg injury which he suffered last year.
Conor McGregor has been out of the octagon for over a year now. ‘The Notorious One’ was last seen in action against Dustin Poirier back in July 2021 and ended up suffering a nasty leg break. Because of the same, he has not been able to fight.
However, thankfully for his fans, Conor McGregor has seemingly recovered from his injury. The Notorious One’ is slowly coming back to his best and is expected to the return sometime around next year. That said, let’s take a look at 5 potential opponents that McGregor could fight upon his return.
A potential matchup between Jorge Masvidal and Conor McGregor would be one of the biggest fights to make thanks to their big fan bases. Moreover, the fight even makes sense stylistically with both being superb strikers. In fact, the build up to the fight will also be amazing. Both fighters are big at trash talking and we can expect to see a lot of it if they fight each other.
Ferguson can also be the one to welcome Conor McGregor back into the octagon. Both him and McGregor have a long history with one another and have often talked smack about each other as well.
Considering the fact that both fighters have been on a rather forgetful run in the UFC, the fight makes even more sense. However, the two are still one of the most popular fighters in the sport and it will be interesting to see fight each other.
Who wouldn’t like to see a trilogy between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz? Diaz and McGregor have given fans two incredible fights in the past and a trilogy looks to be imminent. However, it is worth noting that the Stockton native is out of his UFC contract. To make the fight happen, the UFC will have to figure out a way to lure in Diaz for another fight.
However, considering the amount of money a fight between the two would generate, it is hard to imagine Nate Diaz turning down an offer to fight Conor McGregor again.
Conor McGregor and Max Holloway have fought in the past and a rematch would be interesting to see. While the first matchup was won by McGregor, the rematch could end up very differently. However, it would be an entertaining fight to watch regardless. Considering the fact that both fighters are elite-level strikers, the matchup sets out to be a pure slugfest.
There isn’t a better matchup to make other than a potential fight against Justin Gaethje for Conor McGregor’s return. Stylistically alone, the matchup offers to be an entertaining fight. Moreover, the two men love to brawl and the same can be expected if and when they fight.
Justin Gaethje suffered a first round defeat at the hands of Charles Oliveira in his last fight. Since then, he has been out of action himself and it will be interesting to see him take on McGregor upon his return next year.
