Julianna Pena, the former UFC bantamweight world champion, was quick to listen and respond when Mayra Bueno Silva issued a call-out for her next opponent after a remarkable submission win over Holly Holm at UFC Fight Night.

Pena didn’t shy away from the challenge and held nothing back in her reply. “Hey, Julianna Pena — let’s go!” Bueno Silva told Daniel Cormier. “I deserve this, you deserve this, the people deserve this.”

Pena doesn’t believe Silva can match her

Julianna Pena, the former world bantamweight champion, didn’t miss Mayra Bueno Silva’s call-out and acknowledged it loud and clear. However, Pena expressed her belief that Bueno Silva’s skills don’t quite measure up to her own abilities.

“She’s scared, she’s funny,” Bueno Silva said laughing during the UFC Fight Night post press conference inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. “I love you, Julinna, but I will smash you!”

Pena has her sight on the gold

In her response, Pena mentioned Raquel Pennington, the fighter she believes should be her opponent. With Amanda Nunes retiring and vacating her bantamweight title, the stage is set for Pena to pursue the championship opportunity she desires.

Subsequently, Pena has risen to the top spot in the UFC’s women’s bantamweight division rankings, while Pennington currently holds the No. 2 position. Their rankings make a potential matchup between the two fighters even more intriguing.

After her impressive victory over Holly Holm, Bueno Silva, who was ranked 10th in the bantamweight division, is expected to climb up the rankings significantly.
