Jorge Masvidal, the former UFC standout, ranks among the select MMA fighters who seem tailor-made for professional wrestling. He’s taken initial steps in this direction with AEW, but he’s open to a potential WWE opportunity, provided the compensation aligns with his expectations.

In a conversation with Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, Masvidal shared that his current main focus is his Gamebred Bareknuckle promotion, having retired from active MMA competition after his UFC 287 loss to Gilbert Burns in April. However, his willingness to give WWE a chance is evident.

“If the shoe fits, wear it,” Masvidal said to Barrasso. “I’m very busy, but if the compensation makes sense, then let’s do it.”

Masvidal has previously appeared in AEW

Masvidal made a brief appearance in the AEW storyline, which involved American Top Team head Dan Lambert unleashing some of his fighters on the company in 2021. He even executed a memorable flying knee on Chris Jericho during AEW Grand Slam in September of that year.

He’s also dealing with ongoing legal matters stemming from his alleged assault on his former UFC rival, Colby Covington, in March of the prior year. The charges stemming from that incident remain unresolved, casting a shadow over him, and it’s possible that his trial might take place later this year or extend well into 2024.

Masvidal is a pro at delivering promos

Nevertheless, there’s no doubt that Masvidal has already perfected the skill of delivering compelling promos, even though he hasn’t officially joined forces with WWE as of yet.

“I love fighting,” Masvidal said. “If I go to WWE, I’ll put a hurting on them every night. I’ll torture them, make life f—ing hell for all of them. No one over there can beat me.”

WWE has experienced notable victories, with figures like Brock Lesnar, as well as more modest triumphs (such as Ronda Rousey, albeit with tempered expectations upon her arrival), when incorporating fighters with UFC backgrounds. Is Masvidal poised to continue this trend? At the very least, we are aware that he’s receptive to the notion.
