Jorge Masvidal is considering a return to the Octagon with his eyes on recapturing the coveted “BMF” championship. After a hometown defeat to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 in Miami last April, Masvidal decided to step away from the sport. Despite being the inaugural “BMF” champion, he never had the chance to defend the title, leading the promotion to seek a new champion following his retirement.

Justin Gaethje secured the “BMF” championship with a knockout victory over Masvidal’s teammate, Dustin Poirier, during UFC 291 in July. Masvidal, whose passion for fighting remains undiminished, is even open to the idea of making a return to the Octagon for a shot at challenging Gaethje for the coveted title.

“I think he should defend it against me,” Masvidal told ESPN. “That’s what should happen. If I was to come back to the sport. That’s a big if, but I never knock off coming back to fighting, because I love fighting. I love fighting. It’s my favorite pastime, It’s my favorite sport, it’s my way of life. So, I can never say I’m not going to fight.”

Masvidal praises Justin Gaethje

Masvidal had nothing but admiration for Gaethje, lauding him as the epitome of a “BMF.” Regardless of whether Gaethje opts to defend the title, Masvidal’s fervent wish is that he maintains his tradition of fearlessly taking on any and all challengers, just as he’s always done.

Masvidal expressed his viewpoint, emphasizing that Gaethje should remain consistently active. He encourages Gaethje to stay in the mix, continually competing against the world’s top fighters. In his eyes, a “bad motherf*cker” is someone who willingly takes on all challenges, irrespective of grappling expertise or superior striking skills.

“I think Gaethje should just stay active really,” Masvidal continued. “Fight, keep fighting, stay competing, stay fighting the world’s best because that’s what a ‘bad motherf*cker’ is supposed to do: take them all on. I never said I’m not fighting this guy because he’s a high-level grappler or this guy because he’s a f*cking better striker than me.”

Jorge Masvidal sees everyone equally

According to Jorge Masvidal, fighters are all equal in his eyes. He sees Gaethje as a genuine “bad motherf*cker” because of his fearless attitude. Gaethje doesn’t shy away from anyone, whether it’s a wrestler, striker, or jiu-jitsu specialist. He’s willing to face all types of opponents, and in Masvidal’s view, that’s a significant characteristic of being a true fighter.

“They’re all the same to me. Gaethje pretty much has that attitude, that’s why he’s a bad motherf*cker. He’s not ducking nobody. That guy will literally fight anybody. A wrestler, striker, jiu-jitsu guy. He takes them all, and that’s a big requirement.”
