Despite original opponent, Sean Brady’s injury withdrawal, Jack Della Maddalena, the highly-promising welterweight talent, is now scheduled to compete at UFC 290. On Saturday, July 8, he will enter the octagon against UFC debutant Josiah Harrell, as Damon Martin of MMA Fighting confirmed.

With less than a week’s notice and just under a month after his impressive third-round knockout win over Mike Roberts at LFA 160 on June 16, undefeated fighter Josiah Harrell (7-0) eagerly accepts the challenge. The 24-year-old rising star from Ohio has showcased his skills in both lightweight and welterweight divisions, securing finishes in all seven of his professional victories.

Jack Della Maddalena has a great record going into the fight

Now, Harrell is confronted with a significant elevation in competition as he squares off against Maddalena (14-2), a fighter who has soared through the ranks. Since his debut in the promotion in early 2022, Maddalena has amassed an impeccable 4-0 record in the UFC, delivering four first-round stoppages.

His most recent triumph, a first-round submission of Randy Brown at UFC 284, not only secured him the victory but also earned him his third consecutive post-fight bonus in the UFC.

In a recent development, Brady made the difficult decision to withdraw from the upcoming contest due to an unfortunate circumstance. Taking to Instagram, he shared that he was grappling with a severe case of Streptococcus B infection in his left elbow, which compelled him to step back from the fight.

Chris Curtis wanted to square of with Jack Della Maddalena

Despite veteran UFC middleweight Chris Curtis openly advocating for the opportunity to face Maddalena on short notice, the UFC ultimately made the decision to select Harrell as his opponent.

This Saturday, the highly anticipated UFC 290 event will unfold at the T-Mobile Arena, marking the pinnacle of the UFC’s annual International Fight Week celebrations. The card will be headlined by not one, but two thrilling title fights. First, Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez will clash to unify the featherweight belts. Additionally, the UFC flyweight champion, Brandon Moreno, will face Alexandre Pantoja for the third time, adding another layer of excitement to an already stacked lineup.
