Themba Gorimbo, the UFC fighter, can finally bid farewell to sleeping on a couch in the back of his gym, thanks to a heartwarming gesture from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The Hollywood star surprised Gorimbo with a new house in Miami, capturing the touching moment in a video he shared online.

The meeting between the two came about after they connected on social media, where Gorimbo shared his financial struggles, having only $7 in his bank account before his victorious moment at UFC Vegas 73, which caught the attention of Johnson.

Themba Gorimbo made huge sacrifices

Following his triumph against Takashi Sato at UFC Vegas 73, Gorimbo revealed a selfless initiative. Instead of using the proceeds from auctioning off his fight kit to support his own career, he decided to use the funds to finance the construction of a much-needed water well in his hometown in Zimbabwe.

His act of generosity showcased his dedication to giving back to his community and making a positive impact beyond the realm of sports.

“I was happier raising that money than I was after my win,” Gorimbo told MMA Fighting. “When I got home where I come from and I help these people build this borehole and I helped these kids pay for their school supplies, I don’t have entitlement. I don’t want to go back so I can say ‘I helped you guys.’ I don’t want to see that ever again, but that happiness can only help me. If I help, I feel so good, and when I feel so good, I’m dangerous [in MMA].”

Dwayne Johnson was moved by Gorimbo’s story

Johnson was deeply touched by Gorimbo’s gesture, as it reminded him of his own past when he too faced financial struggles with only $7 to his name. This poignant moment resonated with Johnson, who later founded Seven Bucks Productions, naming it after that pivotal period in his life. Seeing Gorimbo’s selflessness and determination to make a difference further inspired Johnson to continue his journey of pursuing his dreams and giving back to others along the way.

“I’ve got to tell you, your story moved me,” Johnson told Gorimbo during their first face-to-face meeting. “When I found out you had $7 in your bank account, I know what that’s like. I was here in Miami when I had $7, but then also you win your second fight, then you sell your fight kit, you buy a water well for your village in Zimbabwe so your people can have clean water.

“Because you could have taken that money and put it down on a car, on an apartment, but you didn’t. You took care of your people, and that just says exactly who you are, and that’s why I flew all the way in. Just to look you in the eyes and tell you, I got your back.”
