Daniel Cormier Urges Michael Chandler Not to Let Conor McGregor Fight ‘Fall by the Wayside’

Former UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has urged Michael Chandler not to let the Conor McGregor fight “fall by the wayside.”

In the present season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Chandler and McGregor are the opposing coaches, and there has been speculation that the two will eventually face off in the Octagon. The fight has been postponed, though, because of McGregor’s continuing dispute with the law.

Chandler shouldn’t hold off until McGregor settles his legal issues, according to ESPN commentator Cormier. Instead, he thinks Chandler should concentrate on competing against the best lightweights and creating his own momentum.

Cormier’s Advice: Michael Chandler Should Continue Fighting and Position Himself as a Big Matchup for Conor McGregor

“I think Michael Chandler needs to fight,” Cormier said on ESPN’s “DC & RC.” “I think he needs to fight somebody else. I think he needs to keep building his momentum. I think he needs to keep winning fights. I think he needs to keep putting himself in a position where he’s a big fight for Conor McGregor.”

Cormier also acknowledged that the McGregor fight would be a huge payday for Chandler. However, he believes that Chandler should not let money be the deciding factor.

“I know that fight is a big money fight,” Cormier said. “But I think at the end of the day, it’s about legacy. It’s about what you want to be remembered for. And I think Michael Chandler needs to fight and keep winning fights and keep building his momentum.”

Chandler has not fought since a loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 268 in November 2021. He holds the current No. 4 position in the UFC lightweight rankings.

McGregor, meanwhile, has not fought since a loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.He currently holds the No. 9 spot in the UFC lightweight rankings, and it remains uncertain whether the McGregor-Chandler fight will ever come to fruition.. However, Cormier’s advice to Chandler is clear: don’t let the fight “fall by the wayside.”
