Conor McGregor’s persona is a subject that elicits diverse opinions, leaving even those who’ve had close interactions with him unable to definitively characterize the Irishman. A prime example of such ambiguity is UFC head honcho, Dana White, whose relationship with the Irish icon has been known to fluctuate.

Whether it’s during negotiations or in public statements, their ability to coexist harmoniously for extended periods has always been somewhat elusive. Now, this potential rivalry has been further fueled by a noticeable public disregard from White towards McGregor.

Dana White names his top 5 UFC stars

During a conversation with Mike Tyson, White was asked to identify his top five UFC superstars but curiously omitted the name of McGregor, a figure with one of the most illustrious championship records in the organization’s history.

“It’s so hard to do because when you look at the 23 years that I’ve been in it, there’s been so many great fighters, but you gotta start with Jon Jones,” White told Tyson on the ‘Hotboxin’ podcast.

“You gotta have Ronda Rousey, know what I mean? You gotta have Amanda Nunes, greatest female fighter of all time. There’s just so many. It’s hard to pick five.

“Kamaru Usman has got to be in there, Chuck Liddell in his time, Royce Gracie in his era, and in his time, it’s hard to just pick five. If you look at the different generations, they took the sport to another level.”

Dana White excluded Conor McGregor

It’s rather incredulous to think that White could casually overlook one of his most lucrative stars, especially considering that McGregor’s peak years showcased some of the most remarkable displays in MMA history.

Not only did he achieve the unprecedented feat of holding two belts concurrently in UFC, but he also secured championship titles in both featherweight and lightweight divisions.

McGregor’s ascent was pivotal in propelling UFC’s popularity to skyrocket across Europe, leading to a tremendous surge in fanbase within the United Kingdom and Ireland, all attributable to his influence.
