Conor McGregor appears to harbor conflicting emotions regarding the possibility of his rival, Dustin Poirier, securing a spot in the prestigious UFC Hall of Fame. In a Twitter outburst on Tuesday, McGregor emphatically asserted that Dustin Poirier’s career did not merit a place in the UFC’s Hall of Fame, showcasing his strong and impassioned stance on the matter.

“Never won an undisputed title. 0-3 in title fights,” McGregor wrote on Twitter replying to Ariel Helwani. “I disagree on Hall of Fame. All due respect, he has one solid win over me, where he was getting pucked around the cage before he got it, and then the second off a leg break. He’s done f*ck all Ariel. Not hall of Fame, no way.”

Conor McGregor on potential fight with Nate Diaz

McGregor expressed his opinion on Ariel Helwani’s suggestion of Poirier’s potential matchup with Diaz. He highlighted that Diaz had already declined the opportunity to fight him in the past, indicating a case of recency bias.

“Bottled it against Nate,” McGregor wrote. “Ariel is saying he should go for Nate next, forgetting he already booked and bottled it against Nate. It’s recency bias, I am sorry. He is a nice lad, he is not UFC Hall of Fame.”

“LW division Hall of Fame at best. Failed at FW, 0-3 LW titles with a few wins. Colby, not a peep out of him after all was said, bottled Nate also. That’s his 170 run. 0. A LW Hall of Famer at best. The Hall of Fame needs tightening like vice grips. UFC vet < UFC legend.”

“Bottled it against Nate,” McGregor wrote. “Ariel is saying he should go for Nate next, forgetting he already booked and bottled it against Nate. It’s recency bias, I am sorry. He is a nice lad, he is not UFC Hall of Fame.”

McGregor had a change of heart soon

Shortly after his initial statement, McGregor appeared to experience a shift in perspective.“Actually, do you know what? Let him in then, f*ck it. I don’t like to kick a man when he is down. It’s not my style. All good have a nice one, see ya’s at Xmas.”

Their first encounter took place in 2014 during a featherweight clash at UFC 178, where McGregor secured a first-round victory over Poirier. Several years later, in 2021, the two fighters faced off again, this time at lightweight in the main event of UFC 257 in Abu Dhabi. In a reversal of fortunes, Poirier emerged victorious, stopping McGregor in the second round.

Leading up to their trilogy bout at UFC 264 in July 2021, the atmosphere was characterized by mutual respect and cordiality. However, things took a drastic turn during the event. McGregor endured a horrific leg break in the first round, resulting in Poirier being ahead in the fight before it was stopped by a doctor’s decision, granting Poirier a TKO victory.
