Chael Sonnen is of the opinion that Conor McGregor is fully willing to face Michael Chandler in a potential 2023 UFC comeback.

Michael Chandler, who is set to square off against Conor McGregor upon the latter’s return, stated that he has engaged in discussions with the UFC regarding a potential December bout. McGregor has hinted at a comeback in December, specifically at UFC 296 on December 16, although the main event for the card’s pay-per-view slot remains unconfirmed.

Conor McGregor asking for a return date would be out of character

In the realm of mixed martial arts, Conor McGregor’s name is virtually synonymous. He’s often credited with introducing the sport to those outside its core fanbase, becoming an iconic figure in MMA due to his fighting prowess and verbal jabs. Nevertheless, with two years having passed, a single burning question lingers: When is Conor McGregor’s next scheduled fight?

The prevailing notion among the general public is that McGregor must resolve his situation with USADA, the UFC’s anti-doping partner, before the fight can be arranged. McGregor’s status with USADA remains undisclosed, and the current regulation stipulates that a fighter who departs from the testing pool must be re-enrolled for six months before they are eligible to compete.

McGregor vs Chandler might not happen this year

Should McGregor fail to comply, it appears that the bout may be postponed until 2024. This could potentially align with a comeback at UFC 300, scheduled for the spring season.
