The world’s most prominent MMA star is among those captivated by the idea of a potential showdown between the world’s most renowned billionaires. If Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg are genuinely considering a face-off in the cage, Conor McGregor is eager to witness it unfold.

“I’m interested,” McGregor told a group outside the New York Athletic Club. “Are they gonna go ahead with it? Is it gonna happen? If it happens under the UFC banner, I’m with it. It has to happen under the UFC banner, and I’m with it.”

Dana White has been promoting the fight for a while

UFC president Dana White appears to be genuinely committed to the idea of promoting a potential match between Musk and Zuckerberg. He expressed his eagerness to create an entire card centered around the fight, positioning it as a headline attraction for pay-per-view viewers. White’s enthusiasm has even led to the introduction of a UFC-branded “Zuckerberg vs. Musk” T-shirt, now available for purchase on the promotion’s online store.

The ongoing rivalry between the two tech moguls intensified recently when Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook and Meta (parent company of Instagram), was about to unveil Threads, a social media alternative to Twitter. Interestingly, Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, had acquired Twitter last year for a staggering $44 billion. This sparked a series of exchanges between the two, ultimately culminating in Musk challenging Zuckerberg to a “cage match,” a daring proposition that Zuckerberg quickly embraced and accepted.

Both Billionaires are showing off their training

In the aftermath of their heated exchange, both Musk and Zuckerberg have shared glimpses of their training sessions with esteemed UFC champions from the past and present. Musk was seen training with Georges St-Pierre, while Zuckerberg showcased his sessions with Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski. Notably, Conor McGregor, the former UFC two-division champion, expressed his readiness to offer guidance and pointers to either Musk or Zuckerberg if they sought his expertise.

“Sure, sure. I’d do a bit of work with them,” McGregor said. “I hope they go ahead with it. Their pockets might be large, but is the talk cheap? They said it. Are they gonna do it now? I’m excited to see how it unfolds.”

Celebrating his 35th birthday this week, McGregor has been absent from the octagon since his defeat to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. While a potential showdown with rival “Ultimate Fighter 31” coach Michael Chandler is anticipated, no agreement has been finalized yet. McGregor’s current situation involves being outside the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency drug-testing pool, which has raised certain challenges and implications for his return to competitive fighting.
