Ciryl Gane is aiming to recapture the enchantment of last year in the city of Paris. This Saturday, at the Accor Arena, Gane (11-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) is set to face off against Serghei Spivac (16-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 226. You can catch all the action on ESPN+.

Gane has consistently delivered stellar performances throughout his career, notably securing an interim title with a dominant victory over Derrick Lewis. Now, he aims to showcase another flawless performance as he squares off against Spivac.

“I just hope this weekend I’m going to do a masterclass, like we say,” Gane told MMA Junkie. “A perfect performance, and I’m going to do my best for that.”

Ciryl Gane set the stage on fire in his home fight

Gane took the center stage as the headliner for the UFC’s inaugural event in Paris, engaging in an intense battle with the knockout specialist Tai Tuivasa, ultimately securing the finish in the third round. This unforgettable moment was a highlight for “Bon Gamin” in front of his hometown fans, but the question remains: Can he surpass it?

“Top it? It’s going to be hard,” Gane admitted. “The scenario of the last fight unfortunately was really dangerous, but it was perfect. It was like a movie – a bad thing coming, but you come back stronger and you reverse the situation.

“It was really perfect, and we don’t want that for this fight. I just want to finish the fight before the end, and the fans I think are going to be happy about that.”

Ciryl Gane’s strategy against Spivac

Given Spivac’s track record of achieving numerous ground finishes and Gane’s recent submission loss, Gane anticipates an immediate challenge in defending against takedowns as the fight begins.

“I think the best option for him is to go on the ground,” Gane said. “And I know this is a big option for him for every fight because he has a good level in it. So yeah, 100 percent in the first second of the first round, he’s going to try. He’s going to go for it, for sure.”

Gane is enthusiastic about making a strong comeback following his rapid submission defeat to Jon Jones in the fight for the vacant heavyweight championship at UFC 285. He believes that this experience has imparted a valuable lesson that will serve him well in the future.

“I did some mistakes in my fight with Jon Jones,” Gane said. “I’m not (getting) started really early in the game, so that’s why it was not possible to fix this because the fight finished really early. So now, this is my mission to be aware in the first second of the first round.”
