After securing an impressive second-round TKO victory against former UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker, du Plessis is basking in his success. The triumph, which took place at UFC 290 on July 8, catapults him into the spotlight and sets the stage for a compelling 185-pound title clash with the current champion, Israel Adesanya.

With animosity between the two fighters, a heated staredown ensued after du Plessis’ notable win, further intensifying the anticipation for their impending showdown in the octagon.

Brandan Schaub makes a big statement

During a recent installment of “The Schaub Show,” Brendan Schaub enthusiastically highlighted the exceptional talent of du Plessis, emphasizing the need for wider recognition of his skills. Schaub’s remarks shed light on the urgency to acknowledge the prowess and abilities of the rising star in the world of mixed martial arts.

“DDP is the real deal,” Schaub said. “I think Robert Whittaker, you look at his fights before this he looked pretty f*cking good. You can’t say this is an older version of Robert Whittaker. I think Dricus du Plessis is that f*cking good and it’s time we start acknowledging it.”

Schaub thinks du Plessis is no match for Volkanovski

Expanding on his assessment, Schaub pointed out that while du Plessis may not possess certain attributes found in elite fighters like Alexander Volkanovski, he brings a unique set of qualities to the table that prove challenging for his opponents to contend with.

“What he looks like is Dricus du Plessis that we’ve never seen and it’s f*cking good,” Schaub said. “It’s damn near impossible to beat. I’d love to talk to his coach. Hat’s off to him, they’ve done a great job with him and tuning his style and getting it to this world-class level, and nobody believed him. Nobody but his coaches and probably his few family members thought he was going to be at this level.”

Though there hasn’t been an official confirmation yet, the highly anticipated clash between Adesanya and du Plessis is widely anticipated to be the next marquee matchup scheduled for UFC 293 on September 10th.
