UFC featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski, is now set to embark on a six-week restorative journey.
After going under the knife on Monday, the esteemed UFC featherweight champion is now set to embark on a six-week restorative journey, engaging in rehabilitation before resuming full-contact training. Volkanovski’s management verified the surgery, as reported by MMA Junkie and later corroborated by Ariel Helwani.
Providing further insight into his condition, Volkanovski himself took to his Instagram Stories, sharing a video showcasing his arm, wrapped in bandages. Unsurprisingly, Volkanovski (26-2 MMA, 13-1 UFC) had already hinted at this development during the UFC 290 post-fight press conference after his remarkable TKO victory over Yair Rodriguez earlier this month.

The champion openly expressed that a lingering injury required minor surgical attention, which has now come to pass.
“It’s not a big deal. I’ll be back ASAP,” Volkanovski said during UFC 290 post-fight presser. “It will be a quick one. I just need to get something sorted, but I’ll be training. I broke my hand last International Fight Week, and you’ll see me ready to fight in Abu Dhabi to fight Islam or Charles Oliveira. This ain’t a broken bone. We’ll be alright. I’ll be training. I want to be active.”
Expressing his clear intentions, the 34-year-old competitor is adamant about securing a rematch with the reigning UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev. Their previous encounter took place in February at UFC 284, headlining the event in Australia, resulting in Makhachev clinching a hard-fought unanimous decision. Notably, UFC president Dana White has indicated his willingness to entertain the idea of arranging the highly anticipated rematch.
Anticipated to uphold his title, Makhachev is set to defend it on October 24 in the main event of UFC 294, scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi. As of now, there has been no official confirmation of his opponent. Considering that Volkanovski’s rehabilitation process is projected to conclude at the end of August, it remains uncertain if he will be physically ready or willing to compete on the said date.
