Zhizhen Zhang vs Dusan Lajovic will take place in the first round of the 2023 French Open on May 28.
Dusan Lajovic has played some of his best tennis on clay this year, putting in some of his best performances. However, it is unfortunate that he was unable to maintain the same level of form and momentum he had developed over the previous five months when it came to the season’s biggest clay tournament, the French Open. Earlier this year, during the South American clay swing, the Serbian achieved a remarkable career milestone by reaching three consecutive main tour quarterfinals. He built on his success during the European clay swing last month, when he defeated top-ranked players like Novak Djokovic and Andrey Rublev on his way to winning his second ATP title (Banja Luka).
While Dusan Lajovic has made nine consecutive main-draw appearances at the French Open, reaching the round of 16 in his debut campaign in 2014, his opponent Zhizhen Zhang will be making his debut this week. In 2021, he competed here once and was bageled by Peter Gojowczyk in QR2. Despite a win-loss record of 14 wins and 17 losses this season, the 26-year-old has reasons to be optimistic about his season thus far. He recently had a remarkable run at the Madrid Masters, where he impressed many with wins over notable opponents such as Denis Shapovalov, Cameron Norrie, and Taylor Fritz.
