Kaia Kanepi is a professional tennis player from Estonia. She reached a career high of world No. 15 on August 20, 2012, and has won four WTA Tour singles titles. She has also reached seven Grand Slam quarterfinals in all four championships (French Open in 2008 and 2012, Wimbledon in 2010 and 2013, US Open in 2010 and 2017, and Australian Open in 2022), becoming the first Estonian to do so. She is also the first Estonian to be ranked among the top 15 in the world.

Kanepi’s numerous accomplishments have elevated her to the status of one of Estonia’s most famous and successful professional tennis players in history. Kanepi made her first final at the Gaz de France Stars in 2006, becoming the first Estonian female player to do so, losing to Kim Clijsters. In 2010, she won her first singles title in Palermo, becoming the first Estonian female player to do so.

Kaia Kanepi was born in the town of Haapsalu. Her father, Jaak (a real estate broker), and mother, Anne (a housewife), were both tennis players. They also have two daughters, Kadri, who won a tennis scholarship to study in the US, and Karin, who is an avid horse rider. Kaia fell in love with tennis at a young age after watching her parents and sisters play.

She began playing when she was eight years old. Her family has always encouraged her dream of becoming a professional tennis player. Before turning professional in 2000, she reached world number one in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior rankings.
