Elina Mykhailivna Svitolina, a Ukrainian professional tennis player, has attained impressive rankings in both singles and doubles, reaching world No. 3 in singles and 108 in doubles. She has clinched 17 WTA Tour singles titles and finished as a runner-up three times.

Svitolina made her mark in the tennis world in 2013 when she entered the top 50 rankings. She steadily climbed the ladder, reaching the top 20 in June 2015 and becoming the first Ukrainian woman to accomplish this feat. In May 2017, she cracked the top 10, surpassing fellow Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko. Svitolina’s ascent to the top 10 was fueled by winning six WTA titles, including five in 2017. Notable among her victories are the 2018 WTA Finals and three Premier 5-level tournaments: the Dubai Tennis Championships, the Italian Open, and the Canadian Open. Svitolina’s standout performances in Grand Slam tournaments came in 2019, where she reached the semifinals of both the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open. She further solidified her career by winning the bronze medal in the women’s singles tournament at the 2020 Summer Olympics, marking a historic achievement as the first Ukrainian tennis player to win an Olympic medal.

During her junior career, Svitolina’s notable accomplishment was winning the French Open girls’ event in 2010. She also reached the final of the girls’ singles event at the 2012 Wimbledon Championships. In her professional journey, she clinched the WTA 125 Royal Indian Open title in Pune.

In doubles, Sluiter reached two finals with Martin Verkerk, attaining a career-high ranking of No. 97.

After retiring, Sluiter transitioned into coaching. He began coaching Dutch player Kiki Bertens in 2015, and under his guidance, she reached the French Open semifinals in 2016. Their partnership ended in 2019. Sluiter briefly worked with Dutch player Tallon Griekspoor on the ATP tour in 2021, but their collaboration concluded in late 2022. In March 2023, Sluiter became the coach of Ukrainian player Elina Svitolina after her return from maternity leave. Svitolina resumed competition in April on the ITF Tour.
