American tennis player Bethanie Mattek-Sands competes professionally despite being 38 years old. She is a former world No. 1 in doubles and has won nine Grand Slam titles in addition to an Olympic gold medal. In women’s doubles, Mattek-Sands has amassed 27 career victories, including five Grand Slam victories with Lucie afáová in 2015, 2016 at the US Open, 2017 at the Australian Open, and 2017 at the French Open. The pair finished second in the 2016 WTA Finals as well. On January 9, 2017, Mattek-Sands surpassed all other doubles players to take the top spot, which they retained for 32 weeks.
In addition, Mattek-Sands has had great success in mixed doubles, winning the 2012 Australian Open, 2015 French Open, and an Olympic gold medal in 2016. Her best singles performances on the WTA Tour include making it to the fourth round of two prestigious tournaments (Wimbledon in 2008 and the French Open in 2013), reaching the semifinals of the Cincinnati and Birmingham tournaments in 2005 and 2008, and winning the Bell Challenge in 2008 and 2010 respectively.
