Until 2017, Aryna Sabalenka was an unknown in the world of tennis. Still a teenager at the time, the Belarusian tennis player spent her days mainly on the ITF circuit and in some lower-level WTA singles competitions. So when she and Aliaksandra Sasnovich reached the final of the Fed Cup that year, despite both being ranked below the top 75, fans were taken by surprise. Sabalenka has not looked back ever since, playing with the same prowess in singles and doubles tennis alike. She might be ranked sixth in the world at the moment but among the top 10, the Belarusian perhaps is the most versatile. Sabalenka has won 16 career titles so far, 10 singles and six doubles, including a couple of Grand Slams.
2021 saw Sabalenka win her biggest title yet as she reigned supreme in the WTA 1000 competition, the Madrid Open. The Belarusian managed to record an exceptional win over Ashleigh Barty in the final by a score of 6-0, 3-6, 6-4. Earlier that year, she had managed to win the Abu Dhabi Open after beating Veronika Kudermetova in the final. At the Canadian Open in Montreal, Sabalenka carried on with her season. Although she advanced to the semifinals, Karolna Pliskova defeated her in straight sets. Later, she was defeated by Paula Badosa in the Cincinnati Open’s opening round. Sabalenka achieved a career-high rating of No. 2 despite the defeat. That year, she also reached achieved the world number one ranking with Elise Mertens.
In his 18-year career, Konstantin Koltsov played ice hockey for Belarus and also represented his country at the Winter Olympics and IIHF World Championships. Following Sabalenka’s third-round exit from the French Open 2021, the couple was pictured together in Paris. However, it is still unclear whether Kolstov is the person who got engaged to Aryna in 2019 or if Aryna had to break off her prior engagement and is now starting over with Koltsov.
Father Sergey and mother Yulia Sabalenka welcomed Aryna into the world on May 5, 1998 in Minsk, Belarus. Aryna first played tennis with Sergey, and because she enjoyed it, she kept playing and finally decided to pursue a career in it. Unfortunately, Sergey, a former hockey player, passed away in 2019 at the age of 43 as a result of health issues. Since Aryna has kept her parents and personal life quiet, not much is known about her mother Yulia.
