Arantxa Rus is a professional tennis player from Holland. She defeated Australian Jessica Moore in the championship match to win the girls’ singles title at the Australian Open in 2008. With this victory, she rose from 35th to second place in the junior rankings, eventually taking the top spot. Her greatest singles achievements to date include an upset victory over world No. 2 Kim Clijsters in the second round of the 2011 French Open, saving two match points in the second set to advance to the fourth round of the 2012 French Open, and knocking out world No. 5 Samantha Stosur in the third round of the 2012 Wimbledon Championships. She and Quirine Lemoine won the 2017 Swedish Open doubles competition for her first WTA Tour victory.

Arantxa competed in her first ITF Women’s Circuit event at the age of 14 in Alkmaar, where she was defeated by Julie Coin in the second round. She participated in two more ITF tournaments in 2006 at Heerhugowaard and Vlaardingen, where she advanced to the semifinals. Rus continued competing in 2007 and won her first title at Vlaardingen and a second title at Alphen aan de Rijn on the ITF Circuit. She competed in the San Luis Potos final but was defeated in three sets. She received a wildcard to compete in her first WTA Tour main draw in’s-Hertogenbosch. In the opening round, she suffered a 1-6, 1-6 loss to Alona Bondarenko.

Rus qualified for the 2012 Roland Garros main draw based on her ranking, and after Jamie Hampton retired with Rus leading 6-4, 4-3, she advanced to the second round. Then, in two sets, she defeated Virginie Razzano, who had unexpectedly defeated Serena Williams in the first round. She then defeated the 25th seed Julia Görges in three sets to advance to the round of 16 for the first time in her career. In the fourth round, she was defeated in three sets by 23rd-seeded Kaia Kanepi. Since Brenda Schultz-McCarthy in 1993, Rus was the first Dutchwoman to advance to the fourth round in Paris.
