Taylor Fritz faced a setpoint in the first set and was the first to expose a breakpoint in the second set in his first match of the season in the second round (R1 bye). However, he was able to save both critical moments and quickly deliver the deciding blow, resulting in a 7-6, 6-3 straight-set victory over Aslan Karatsev. He turned two previous ATP quarterfinal appearances on grass into titles in Eastbourne in 2019 and 2022. His most recent grass court campaign, however, ended in the quarterfinals against former world number one Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon last year.
Marton Fucsovics advanced to the ATP quarterfinals for the first time this year after defeating Yibing Wu, the reigning ATP Dallas champion, in a three-set match on Thursday. This was his fourth victory of the season. In addition to defeating Denis Shapovalov in the first round, Fucsovics won qualifiers against Louis Wessels and Altug Celikbilek. The former Boys’ Wimbledon champion has twice reached the quarterfinals in Stuttgart but has been unable to advance any further. He lost to Milos Raonic in 2019 and Nick Kyrgios in 2022, not winning a single set against either opponent.
