Ons Jabeur vs Bernarda Pera will take place in the fourth round of the 2023 French Open on June 5.
Ons Jabeur ended qualifier Olga Danilovic’s run in the third round, but only after she struggled to find her footing for the first set and a half. It was her first three-setter of the fortnight, but she rallied in the evening hours to defeat the Serbian youngster, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, and equal her best Roland-Garros performances. In her previous fourth-round matches in Paris, she was defeated by Danielle Collins in three sets in 2020 and Coco Gauff in two sets in 2021. The 2022 Wimbledon and US Open runner-up takes on another American at this stage of the tournament, aiming for her fifth career Grand Slam quarterfinal (she is 4-2 in previous attempts).
Before this fortnight, Bernarda Pera had a 2-5 career record at Roland-Garros, with her most recent victory coming in the September 2020 edition. She has, however, advanced to the second week of a Grand Slam event for the first time in her career, having survived either a tiebreak or a deciding set in all three rounds this season. It’s the first time she’s won three matches in a row since her July-August purple patch, which included her first WTA titles in Hamburg and Budapest, a 125K final in Concord, and a semifinal in Cleveland. She is 2-11 against top ten players, most recently defeating Anett Kontaveit in the Hamburg final.
