During the European clay swing, Marton Fucsovics’ matches have been entertaining, with results alternating between victories and defeats. He had to come back from a set down against Giulio Zeppieri in the qualifying rounds, but he also lost after blowing a significant lead against Botic Van De Zandschulp in the first round. In Munich, he faced a set and double break deficit against Max Hans Rehberg in the first round, but recovered to win, only to lose in the second round to Taylor Fritz despite winning the first set.
With each subsequent appearance, the former world #31’s record at the Madrid Masters has slipped. He made it to the second round of his debut campaign in 2019 before being knocked out. Marco Cecchinato has only won eight matches this year, but five of those victories have come in the last month. The Italian’s first-round matches in the previous two editions of the Madrid Masters were fiercely contested and went the full three sets. Unfortunately for him, he was defeated in both of these matches. He was defeated by Diego Schwartzman in 2019 and knocked out by Roberto Bautista Agut in 2021.
