Irina-Camelia Begu won her second straight-set match of the week, 6-3, 6-0, over former finalist Sara Errani, following up on a similar performance against Anna Bondar. She has won 27 times on clay courts since the beginning of 2022, nearly twice as many as she has on hard courts in the same time period. She won Palermo and 125K Bucharest last year, and she was recently a quarterfinalist in Madrid. The Romanian has reached the third round of a major for the tenth time and has a 3-6 record in previous appearances. Karolina Muchova has advanced to the third round of the Roland-Garros tournament after surviving two difficult matches. She defeated eighth seed Maria Sakkari, 7-6, 7-5, coming back from a break down in each set, and then defeated another former semifinalist, Nadia Podoroska, 6-3, 0-6, 6-3. Before her abdominal injury, the Czech was a semifinalist at the Australian Open in 2021 and a two-time quarterfinalist at Wimbledon. In Paris, she has been knocked out in the third round both years, losing to former finalist Sloane Stephens, 6-3, 7-5, in 2021 and retiring in 2022.
