Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek advanced to the quarterfinal of the Warsaw tournament with an impressive 6-2, 6-2 victory against Claire Liu. Despite facing tough challenges, she saved five out of six breakpoints against Liu and six out of eight breakpoints against Nigina Abduraimova. Swiatek’s father is involved in organizing the tournament. In 2022, she reached the quarterfinals but lost in three sets to eventual champion Caroline Garcia. This year, the event is on hard courts, which helps her prepare for her US Open title defense. Swiatek has a remarkable 20-4 record in quarterfinal matches since 2020, maintaining a flawless 11-0 record on hard courts. Her 54-match winning streak against players outside the top 50 ended recently with a loss to Elina Svitolina at Wimbledon.

Linda Noskova secured a swift 6-3, 6-3 victory over Viktoria Hruncakova in just 67 minutes, winning 80% behind her first serves. It was a much easier match compared to her previous one, where she had to battle for two and a half hours and rally from a set and break down to defeat qualifier Jana Fett, ranked world no. 248. This win marks Noskova’s first WTA quarterfinal appearance since her impressive performances in the early season. As a qualifier, she reached the final in Adelaide and made it to the quarterfinals in Lyon, defeating notable players like Victoria Azarenka, Daria Kasatkina, Ons Jabeur, and Garbine Muguruza, which helped her crack the top 50 rankings.

Head to Head

The head-to-head record between Linda Noskova and the local player is 0-0. While Noskova has already reached the doubles semifinal, she has a 2-1 record in career quarterfinal matches. However, due to her relative lack of experience, it is unlikely that she will have a significant impact on the local player. Both Noskova and the local player are the only remaining seeds in the tournament. Iga Swiatek, on the other hand, is expected to further solidify her position as the leader in wins for the season.
