The Ukrainian, who had not won a main draw match in Paris since 2019, converted all six breakpoints to defeat the Canadian, 6-1, 6-1, her third straight-set victory. She hadn’t gone this deep into a major in nearly five years. The Ukrainian is 1-2 in round-of-16 tournaments, having lost to Roberta Vinci at the 2016 US Open and retiring against Garbine Muguruza at Roland-Garros in 2018. She did, however, advance to the quarterfinals of the 2018 US Open after defeating Marketa Vondrousova.
