Iga Swiatek vs Lesia Tsurenko will take place in the fourth round of the 2023 French Open on June 5.
Iga Swiatek was as cold-blooded as ever, dispatching former junior rival Wang Xinyu 6-0, 6-0 in just over 50 minutes. There was little to analyse in the match because the Chinese player hit three winners to 22 unforced errors. It comes after identical 6-4, 6-0 victories in the previous rounds over Cristina Bucsa and Claire Liu. The Pole has a negative win-loss record (5-6) in the last-16 of a major; in comparison, she has lost only seven matches in all other rounds of Grand Slam events combined. At the Australian Open in January, the three-time major champion was defeated by Elena Rybakina, 6-4, 6-4.
Lesia Tsurenko saved her best performance for former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu. The Ukrainian, who had not won a main draw match in Paris since 2019, converted all six breakpoints to defeat the Canadian, 6-1, 6-1, her third straight-set victory. She hadn’t gone this deep into a major in nearly five years. The Ukrainian is 1-2 in round-of-16 tournaments, having lost to Roberta Vinci at the 2016 US Open and retiring against Garbine Muguruza at Roland-Garros in 2018. She did, however, advance to the quarterfinals of the 2018 US Open after defeating Marketa Vondrousova.
