With the win over Zhang Shuai, Gauff became the youngest quarter-finalist at the Flushing Meadows since Melanie Oudin in 2009.
American tennis sensation Coco Gauff advanced to the quarter-final of the US Open for the first time in her career after a stunning victory against Zhang Shuai in the round of 16 of the Grand Slam on Sunday. Gauff beat Zhang 7-5, 7-5 after smashing five aces and converting five out of 11 break points. “It feels insane,” Gauff said later in an on-court interview as she became the youngest quarter-finalist at the Flushing Meadows since Melanie Oudin in 2009. The American will face a stiff challenge in Caroline Garcia in the last eight.
On the other hand, Caroline Garcia has been playing like one of the best players in the world for the past couple of months now. Her most recent success came in the round of 16 of the US Open when she beat home favourite Alison Riske 6-4, 6-1. The Frenchwoman recorded an incredible eight aces and converted three out of four break points to seal the deal on a humid night in New York.
Coco Gauff and Caroline Garcia are scheduled to face one another in the quarter-final of the US Open 2022 on Tuesday, September 6. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
