The Round of 64 match of Canadian Open 2023 between Emil Ruusuvuori and Marcos Giron will take place on August 8.
Emil Ruusuvuori ended a five-match losing streak with a recent victory in Washington. He won against Constant Lestienne and Yoshihito Nishioka, but fell to Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16. With a 4-1 record in Masters opening rounds this year, Ruusuvuori excelled in hardcourt events, reaching the quarterfinals in Miami and the third round in Indian Wells. His recent history at the Canada Masters involves three full-duration matches, including losses to Dusan Lajovic in 2021 and Hubert Hurkacz in 2022.
Breaking his streak, Marcos Giron avoided consecutive elimination in Toronto Masters qualifiers. He triumphed in three sets against Nick Chappell and in straight sets against Radu Albot recently. Last year, in his Canada Masters (MD) debut in Montreal, he entered as a qualifier and lost to Roberto Bautista Agut in the first round. This year, Giron has a 2-2 balanced record in Masters opening rounds, alternating wins and losses. His latest Masters first-round match was in May in Rome, where he was defeated by Roman Safiullin in straight sets.
