Dusan Lajovic won his first ATP title in 2019 and came close to winning the Monte Carlo Masters that same year. However, due to the calibre of opponents he faced on his journey to glory, his title run in Banja Luka last week is likely to be considered his greatest achievement. The former Monte Carlo Masters runner-up scored the biggest win of his career by defeating world number one Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the quarterfinals, and then ended reigning Monte Carlo Masters champion Andrey Rublev’s eight-match winning streak by winning a close three-set match in the title match.
Jason Kubler must be pleased with his performance on clay this year. During his recent trip to the United States, he reached the quarterfinals of the ATP Houston and Sarasota Challenger. Last week, he began his European clay swing with a win over the talented Daniel Rincon in Barcelona. The Australian’s breakthrough results on the main tour came only after the end of the European clay swing last year. It’ll be interesting to see how he performs on the court in the coming weeks, as he now appears to be playing with more confidence and belief. With 251 wins and 105 losses, clay has been the most productive surface for the 29-year-old.
