Coco Gauff vs AK Schmeidlova will take place in the fourth round of the 2023 French Open on June 5.
Coco Gauff faced rising star Mirra Andreeva in her third consecutive match at Suzanne-Lenglen and needed two hours to end the qualifier’s run. She didn’t serve out the first set but came back to win 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 and advance to the second week in Paris for the third year in a row. In her young career, the 19-year-old has already made it to the second week of majors seven times. She is 3-4 in round-of-16 matches, with her most recent loss coming to Jelena Ostapenko at the Australian Open in January. World No. 6 was a 2021 quarterfinalist and runner-up to Iga Swiatek a year ago in Paris.
Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, 28, has reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career. This is an unexpected triumph for a player who had only 16 career major victories prior to arriving in Paris. In addition, she had not advanced past the second round of any tour-level event since February 2022. She is the first Slovak woman to reach the second week of Roland-Garros since Dominika Cibulkova’s quarterfinal run 11 years ago. To continue, she must overcome her 1-8 record against top-10 players; her lone victory came against Roberta Vinci at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
