Early in the 2023 season, Adrian Mannarino had been producing reliable results on hard surfaces. However, since switching to clay courts, his performance has drastically decreased. He has only been able to win one of his seven clay-court matches so far this year. Notably, three of those defeats came against rivals like Kimmer Coppejans and Luca Van Assche at the Challenger level. Only one of his previous four main-draw matches in Geneva had ended in a victory for him, and that was in the first round of the 2015 tournament against Carlos Berlocq.

This season, Filip Krajinovic’s form has been particularly disappointing as he has struggled to produce positive results on all playing surfaces. In reality, he has only been able to win three main-draw matches at tour-level competitions, none of which have come since ATP Montpellier in February. The former Paris Masters runner-up has had a difficult season overall, but his performance on the clay swing has shown some promise. Players like Christopher O’Connell, Roberto Bautista Agut, and Dusan Lajovic have all lost to him in sets. Additionally, earlier this month in Prague, he advanced to the semifinals of a Challenger tournament.

Head to head

At the Rome Challenger 2012, R1, Filip Krajinovic has a 1-0 lead (6-1 6-0). The Serbian has demonstrated a marginally higher level of performance in recent weeks, which could give him a slight advantage in this matchup between two players who are both out of form and lacking confidence.
