The Indian pair of Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee are having a sensational run at the WTT Contender Tunis 2023. The duo claimed a stunning victory over South Korean top-seeded pair of Jeon Jihee and Shin Yubin with a 3-2 win and secured their place in the finals of the women’s doubles. This will also mark the first final of the Indians as a pair.
Despite a first-round setback with a score of 7-11, the Indian paddlers displayed resilience by winning the second and third rounds with matching scores of 11-9 and took a lead over the World no. 4 pair of Jeon Jihee/ Shin Yubin. The South Korean team bounced back to equal the game by claiming the fourth game by 7-11 and pushed the match into the final round. However, Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee demonstrated great poise in a high-pressure situation and won in the deciding set with a score of 11-9.
Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee will next face Japan’s Miwa Harimoto and Miyuu Kihara in the women’s doubles finals of the WTT Contender Tunis 2023. The Japanese pair certainly have an edge over the Indians, however, Sutirtha and Ayhika have displayed excellent skills in the tournament and already caused major upsets, having defeated much higher-ranked opponents. The duo will look to earn crucial ranking points and claim the top position in the tournament being held in Tunis.
The final match between Sutirtha Mukherjee/ Ayhika Mukherjee and Miwa Harimoto and Miyuu Kihara is slated to be held at 15:30 local time (8:00 pm) on Sunday, June 25, 2023.

The WTT Contender Tunis 2023 kicked off on June 20 and will conclude on June 25, 2023.
The overall prize money is set at USD 75,000. The winners in all the events will be given the same ranking points, i.e. 400 points, while the amount given in each division varies. The winners in the singles, doubles, and mixed doubles will receive an amount of 5000 USD, 1000 USD, and 1000 USD respectively.
