After arriving here for the 29th Masters’ National Table Tennis Championships, Arun Singh Barhat, who had won the bronze medal at the 2023 World Veterans Championships, passed away. On Tuesday, the 77-year-old will be cremated in his hometown of Jodhpur. His daughter Aatmika, son-in-law, and two granddaughters are the family members he left behind. To compete in the Masters’ Nationals, which began on Monday, Arun Singh and his teammates from Rajasthan traveled to Jalandhar on Sunday. He stayed in a city hotel in the morning and took the afternoon to relax before his evening visit to the championship venue.

His friends had to ask the hotel reception to open the door because he was not answering the knock on the door. They rushed Arun Singh to a nearby hospital after discovering him to be unwell, where the medical staff declared him “brought” dead. A severe cardiac arrest was what caused the death. An enthusiastic player of table tennis, Arun Singh competed for the school in several national competitions. Additionally, he frequently competed and won medals at the National Veterans Championships.

The news of Arun Singh Barhat’s passing saddens me. It was shocking that he had a heart attack and died shortly after arriving in Jalandhar this evening to compete in the 29th Masters National Table Tennis Championships. With numerous medals to his name, Barhat was a committed table tennis player. He competed in the World Veterans Championships and took third place in the 75+ division, winning gold in the men’s doubles event in the most recent competition in Srinagar. He was a banker who retired from his position as General Manager of Dena Bank but was still highly active, enjoyed reciting poetry, and was well-liked, Meghna continued.
