Shymanovich’s streak continued at the 2021 European Short Course Championships in Russia. He equaled the 50 meter breaststroke world record, set by van der Burgh in 2009. Moreover, he set regional and championship record-breaking performances. In a relay event, he showcased his prowess by marking the fastest 50-meter breaststroke relay split, propelling his team to a fifth-place finish.
Shymanovich cemented his position and gained the prime rank in “The Week That Was” as presented by Swimming World in late 2021, a position he shared with Hungary’s star, Szebasztián Szabó. In the subsequent matches of the 2021 International Swimming League, he refined his own record and ended the season fifth in MVP points. His dual world records in 2021 underscored his distinct position as the only athlete to achieve this feat in the year.
