The latest episode of WWE NXT took place on Wednesday (April 28) at the Capitol Wrestling Center, located in the WWE Performance Center. The show had advertised a number of segments and matches ahead of time. Former NXT champion Adam Cole spoke to Arash Markazi, breaking his silence since losing to former Undisputed Era member Kyle O’Reilly in TakeOver: Stand & Deliver. Bronson Reed was guaranteed a shot at Johnny Gargano’s North American title if he beat Austin Theory. Cruiserweight champion Kushida and Tag champs MSK would take on Legado Del Fantasma. Mercedes Martinez was booked against Dakota Kai.

Here’s a full recap of this week’s episde of WWE NXT

  • Mercedes Martinez takes on Dakota Kai to open the show. The match ends in a disqualification thanks to interference from Women’s champion Raquel Gonzalez. Gonzalez then threw Martinez face first into the barricade.
  • The Grizzled Young Veterans demand a shot at tag team champions MSK. Instead, Tomasso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher interrupt and berate GYV.
  • Tony Storm takes on Zayda Ramier in a singles match. The rookie Ramier upset Storm – a former NXT UK women’s champion – thanks to distraction from Zoey Stark.
  • Bronson Reed takes on Austin Theory with the stipualtion that if Reed wins, he gets a North American title shot. Some back and forth action – as well as interference from The Way – eventually ends with a Reed win.
  • Drake Maverick and Killian Dain take on Imperium, represented by Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel. Imperium win, but not without some drama as team-mate Alexander Wolfe refuses to attack Dain.
  • Tag team match between women’s tag champs Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart and the team of Aliyah and Jessi Kamea doesn’t get underway. The Way (Candice LaRae and Indi Hartwell) attack the champs. However, NXT General Manager William Regal books the two teams in a street fight title match next week.
  • Adam Cole claims in his interview that he remains the ‘face of NXT’ and dismisses Kyle O’Reilly.
  • Legado del Fantasma took on MSK and Kushida in the night’s main event. Santos Escobar and co. picked up the win and posed with all the titles afterwards.

NXT is entertaining even at its worst but this episode was excellent. The matches saw a number of storylines move forward and the TV segments all served a purpose. The show might have moved to Tuesday nights recently, but the quality remains unaffected.
