The second iteration of the FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Championship 2022 will be held from October 25 to October 30, 2022, in Reykjavik, Iceland. The World Fischer Random Chess Championship was officially acknowledged by FIDE in 2019. American Grandmaster Wesley So upset classical chess champion Magnus Carlsen in the final of the inaugural event, held in Norway.

The total prize pool for the final in the capital of Iceland is $400,000 USD. Eight competitors will compete for the 150,000 USD first prize and the title of FIDE Fischer Random World Champion. The three confirmed invitees out of the four are the reigning champion Wesley So, the world’s top-ranked grandmaster, Magnus Carlsen, and Hjorvar Steinn Gretarsson. The FIDE President will provide the wild card entry to the fourth player. The four winners of the online qualifications on Chess.com and Lichess.org, two from each site, will join the four players with the highest seedings: Vladimir Fedoseev, Matthias Bluebaum (chess.com), Hikaru Nakamura, and Nodirbek Abdusattorov (lichess.org).
