Here are the day one results of Weightlifting in National Games 2022.
Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu clinched the gold medal at the National Games 2022 on September 30, 2022. She lifted a total of 191 kg (84kg in Snatch and 107kg in Clean & Jerk) to grab the yellow medal ahead of Sanjita Chanu. With a combined total of 187kg, her compatriot Sanjita earned another medal for Manipur in the form of Silver. Odisha’s Sneha Soren bagged the third position with a lift of 169 kg.
In the snatch category, the Commonwealth Games 2022 champion Mirabai lifted 81kg in her first shot. She then attempted a second lift of 84kg and successfully accomplished it. The Indian star athlete lifted 103 kg quite comprehensively in the first time before lifting 107 kg in her next attempt in the Clean & Jerk. Although the 28-year-old skipped the third attempts in both Snatch and Clean & Jerk, her total score was sufficient to fetch her the gold medal at the event.
In the men’s 61 kg division, Charu Pesi claimed the first gold medal for Arunachal Pradesh in the 36th edition of the National Games. He lifted 114 kgs in snatch and 145 kgs in clean & jerk to record a total of 259 kgs in the men’s 61 kg category. Muna Nayak of Services and Mizoram’s Zakhuma won the silver and bronze, respectively. While, Manipur seized another gold in Weightlifting as Ranibala Devi collected a total of 188 to top the women’s 55kg. Chandigarh’s Veerjeet Kaur secured the silver medal by lifting 180kg. Odisha won its second medal of the day in Weightlifting as Pramila Krisani took home the bronze with a combined score of 167kg.
