Tokyo Olympics: PM Modi to interact with Indian contingent on July 13

A total of 126 athletes across 18 sports disciplines from India will be heading to Tokyo.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to interact with the Indian athletes’ contingent ahead of the Tokyo Olympics on July 13 via video conferencing. The PMO said the interaction by Modi is an attempt to interact with the athletes. And motivate them for the Games.

“At 5 PM this evening, I look forward to interacting with our athletes who would be representing India at @Tokyo2020. Each of them has an inspiring life journey and I am sure what they would share would interest you all. Do watch the interaction. #Cheer4India,” PM Modi tweeted.

Before this virtual send-off, the PM also looked at the preparations for the facilitation of the Indian contingent at Tokyo-2020.

He had also discussed the inspirational journeys of some athletes on his Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast. He asked the nation to come forward as one and wholeheartedly support them, the PMO noted.

A total of 126 athletes across 18 sports disciplines from India will be heading to Tokyo.

India will be sending its biggest ever Olympics contingent to any of the Olympics, the PMO said. Noting that the 69 cumulative events across 18 sport disciplines that India will participate in are also the highest ever for the country.

The PMO said– for the first time, a fencer from India (Bhavani Devi) qualified for the Olympic games.

Nethra Kumanan is the first-ever female sailor from India to qualify for the Olympics, while Sajan Prakash and Srihari Nataraj are the first swimmers from India to qualify for Olympic games by achieving the ‘A’ qualification standard in swimming, it added.
