The Tokyo Olympics 2020 has so far been very disappointing for India. After the end of three days, India has had only one medal. Mirabai Chanu created history as she won the silver in the 49kg weightlifting category. This was the first medal for an Indian in weightlifting since Karnam Malleswari in Sydney in 2000. On the other hand, the shooting contingent, who were expected to win a couple of medals, have been pretty poor. Elavenil Valarivan and Apurvi Chandela were knocked out in the 10m women’s air rifle event.

There have been more heartbreak with Manu Bhaker and Yashasvini Jaiswal failing to qualify for the 10m air pistol final. The disappointment extended to the men’s 10m air rifle with Divyansh Singh Panwar and Deepak Kumar failing to put up a good fight. Saurabh Chaudhary’s exit in the medal round of the 10m air pistol was a big blow. PV Sindhu, Mary Kom, and Manika Batra have all been playing really well. Sindhu started her campaign strongly and so did Mary Kom. Batra overcame a deficit to enter the next round in Table Tennis.

But, there was even more pain in store. Manish Kaushik, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran were knocked out in boxing and TT. Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina also crashed out from the doubles tournament.

Schedule for India on Monday July 26 in Tokyo Olympics 2020

With the weekend disappointment behind them, the Indian contingent will be continuing to fight for more medals. Bhavani Devi will become the first Indian fencer when she comes out for her contest. The Indian women’s hockey team will face off against Germany. They will be aiming to recover after being thrashed 5-1 by the Netherlands.

Archery will also be on the minds of India with Atanu Das having another chance. But, with South Korea so dominant, the medal chances for India are very slim. Here is the list of events for Monday.
