The 12th day of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 was simply a memorable day for Indian sports. After a gap of 41 years, India men’s hockey team managed to win a medal by beating Germany in a pulsating bronze medal playoff match. India defeated Germany 5-4, with PR Sreejesh saving a penalty in the last seconds of the match. The day got better for India as Ravi Dahiya settled for silver in wrestling. However, he missed out on gold as he could not get the better of Zavur Uguyev.  (Tokyo 2020 full coverage)

There was some disappointment as well. Vinesh Phogat, the No.1 seed, was eliminated and her loss was a big shock. Deepak Punia also missed out on a chance to win the bronze medal. The athletics contingent continued to disappoint. But, India have already surpassed their Rio Tally of two in 2016. Thus, if one looks at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, it has been a success for the Indian contingent. If they win two more medals, they will have their most successful Olympics ever. There is still one more day left.

Aditi Ashok made her presence felt on Day 13, with the golfer well placed to win a historic medal on Saturday. Bajrang Punia suffered a defeat in the semi-finals, and will be battling it out for bronze tomorrow. The India women’s hockey team suffered a defeat in their bronze encounter against Great Britain, costing the team a historic gold.
