The Brazilian football team continued their good run of form at the Tokyo Olympics with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. The star of the match, yet again, was Everton attacker Richarlison. The dynamic striker scored a brace to see his team over the line as they move forward in their quest to retain their Olympics gold medal. South Korea also secured an impressive victory as they trounced Honduras 6-0. Hosts Japan displayed a top performance in a 4-0 win against France while Spain and Argentina played out a 1-1 draw. Mexico and Egypt also won their respective matches while New Zealand and Romania, and Germany and Ivory Coast played out draws.

RICHARLISON THE STAR

Matheus Cunha handed Brazil the lead in the 14th minute but the score was levelled 13 minutes later when Saudi Arabia’s Abdulela Alamri scored the equalizer in the 27th minute. It was Richarlison who stepped up in the second half to ensure that Brazil did not get anything less than a win. In the 76th minute, the Everton attacker put the defending champions back in the lead. The one-goal advantage made the Brazilians a little nervy but Richarlison sealed the deal in stoppage time when he scored his second and his team’s third.

RAMPANT SOUTH KOREA

South Korea is also one of the teams that have been impressive at the Games this year. They capped off their group stage fixtures with an incredible 6-0 victory over Honduras. Forward Uijo Hwang scored a brilliant hattrick in the match, two of which were penalties and the other coming in first-half stoppage time. Jinya Kim, Dujae Won, and Kangin Lee scored a goal each in the match.

HOSTS JAPAN DOMINATE FRANCE

Hosts Japan have not been any less impressive either. They beat world champions France by a comprehensive scoreline of 4-0. The hosts never looked in doubt at any stage of the match and reaped the rewards of their brilliant performance. Hiroki Sakai, Takefusa Kubo, Koji Miyoshi, and Daizen Maeda were the scorers for Japan in the match as they cruised to victory.

EGYPT, MEXICO PICK UP VICTORIES

Mexico and Egypt also picked up impressive victories. Mexico beat South Africa 3-0. The scorers for the North American side were Luis Romo, Henry Martin, and Alexis Vega. Egypt, on the other hand, picked up a 2-0 win over Australia. Ahmed Rayan and Ammar Hamdy scored the goals for the African nation.

SPAIN, ARGENTINA, GERMANY PLAY OUT DRAWS

Germany and Ivory Coast also played out a 1-1 draw on the day. Eduard Loewen scored Germany’s goal of the match and Benjamin Henrichs’ own goal earned the Ivory Coast a draw.
