Squash: Indian Men's Team claim Maiden Gold, Women win Bronze at the Asian Team Championships 2022

India defeated Kuwait in straight sets in the final to claim the Asian Squash Team Championships 2022 in Cheongju, South Korea.

The Indian men’s team clinched their first gold medal in the Asian Squash Team Championships on October 4, 2022. They defeated Kuwait in straight sets in the final to claim the team Championships 2022 in Cheongju, South Korea. The Indian men’s team had earlier won three silver medals and seven bronze medals.

Ramit Tandon won the first game 3-0 over Ali Aramezi by 11-5, 11-7, 11-4, while Saurav prevailed 3-0 over Ammar Altamimi by 11-9, 11-2, 11-3. Falah Mohammad and Abhay Singh of India didn’t have to put in any effort to win the championship as  Saurav and Ramit emerged victorious in the final to hand a 2-0 defeat to Kuwait.

Previously, the Indian men’s team of Ramit Tandon, Saurav Ghosal, and Abhay Singh topped their pool and advanced to the semifinals. In Pool A, they defeated Qatar, Pakistan, Kuwait, South Korea, and Chinese Taipei by 3-0. In their semi-final matchup with Malaysia, the men also prevailed 2-1. Saurav Ghoshal and Ramit Tandon both won their games, but Abhay Singh lost.

The women’s team had to settle for the bronze medal after losing 1-2 to Malaysia in the semi-final. This was their fifth tournament third-place finish. In 2012, the women’s team had taken home a gold medal. The women’s Indian team came second in Pool B with two victories and one loss. In the preliminary round, the women defeated Iran and Singapore 3-0 before falling to Hong Kong 0-3.
