After “incumbent” Raninder Singh took a “prolonged leave,” senior vice-president Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo assumed leadership of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) on Thursday. In a statement last month, the ministry noted that Raninder had served as president of the NRAI for 12 years, from December 29, 2010, to December 29, 2022, and that he was no longer by the code eligible to serve in that capacity.

Raninder, 55, who was re-elected National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) president in September 2021, took a leave of absence after the Sports Ministry issued a directive stating that, by the National Sports Code, heads of national sports federations (NSFs) cannot hold office for more than 12 years. After serving 12 years as the head of a federation, Raninder was re-elected as NRAI president in September 2021 for a four-year term. According to a release from the organization, the Governing Body of the NRAI “unanimously” approved Singh Deo as its president on Thursday.
